Timothy A Minott

 This census record presents several problems - both Timothy
A and Adena 'Minnott' claim to have been born in the USA;
Timothy A gives his age as  41; he describes himself as a
psychologist; so far no confirmation of these  statements has
been found. However, both 'Minnotts' are recorded as Black;
Adena's age is given as 26, and she is described as a
phrenologist - all of which tallies with other records. There
is other indication of Adena Minott's closeness to her
eldest brother Timothy; however very little further, if any,
information can be found about this elusive 'psychologist'.

There are a few records of a Timothy Minott which could possibly refer to Timothy Minott, brother of Adena Minott; the only one I have which really seems likely to refer to him, is an Ellis Island record from 1910:

 The immigration official filling out the form clearly had trouble with this entry - it seems possible that two different people wrote the entry, 'Thimoty', the mis-spelling of the name, seemingly an addition. Mr Minott's occupation is given as 'Phychologist', another mis-spelling. Minott was travelling with Caroline Cahill, noted as his niece, and both of them are described as being of dark complexion and having been born in Kingston Jamaica.
It would be very interesting to find out more about this member of the Jamaican Minott family, who may well be the earliest Jamaican described as being a psychologist by profession. Given the age ascribed to him, it seems doubtful that he was the son of John and Leonora, though he could possibly have been John's son from an early relationship and accepted as a member of the family.
